|Doel is a subdivision of the municipality of Beveren in the Flemish province of East-Flanders. It is located near the river the Scheldt, in a polder of the Waasland.
Probably the most famous abandoned ghost town or village in Europe is Doel in Belgium.
Since the 60s, Doel is threatened with complete demolition due to the future enlargement of the Port of Antwerp. Many historical buildings will be destroyed.
However, these plans were continuously delayed by municipal and regional government. Many residents have left, there are only a few residents remained.
Most of the homes are no longer occupied, the result is an abandoned village with dilapidated houses, empty streets and overgrown gardens and lots of graffiti.
